Future sporting stars celebrate new mini tennis zone

Posted by on Oct 22, 2014 in Marlow Sports Club Events, Marlow Tennis Club, News | 0 comments

Tennis stars of the future were given a chance to serve up their first ace with the opening of a ‘mini tennis’ zone in Marlow last weekend.  Around 40 children picked up a racket to test out the new kid-friendly courts at the Pound Lane Club on Sunday. Club chairman Guy Tomlinson said: “We had a fantastic day on Sunday, some 40 people turned up to play mini tennis and open our new courts. “Constitutionally, we’re non-profit making, every penny we earn goes back into providing tennis facilities for our community and members.” The £8500 area at Marlow Tennis Club on Pound Lane was paid for with a £1000 grant from the Buckinghamshire Lawn Tennis Association, with the rest coming from members. The kid-friendly courts, which are just under half the normal size, allow younger children to get to grips with the sport quickly and easily using oversize balls and rackets. The club has invested nearly £100,000 in facilities in the last three years, after resurfacing three courts in 2012. It is part of Marlow Sports Club, a community hub comprising tennis, hockey, cricket, running and cycling clubs among others at its Pound Lane home. Story via the Bucks Free...

Marlow Tennis Club raise £355 at It’s Pimm’s o’Clock social

Posted by on Jul 11, 2014 in Marlow Tennis Club, News | 0 comments

Marlow Tennis Club raised a fantastic £355 at their It’s Pimm’s o’Clock summer social on Wednesday. The money will go towards paying off the debt of £1.2 million undertaken to secure the 20 acres of land in the trust, after the club was faced with eviction from the site in 2006. The club has now cleared more than half of this debt with thanks to the generous support of club members and the wider Marlow community. “Thanks goes to Ann-Carolyn-Julia-Caroline-Caroline-Jilli-Ann-Victoria-Denise-Ali-Sarah-Thelma-Carol who organised the superb ‘It’s Pimm’s o’Clock’ social on Wednesday. “The evening was well supported with over 35 players enjoying tennis, several dozen fantastic sandwiches, lots of cakes, snacks and 7 bottles of Pimm’s! “£355 was raised for the Marlow Sports Club land purchase from all the food and raffle prizes generously donated by our ladies,”  Alan Hely.
